Job Description:
The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR)/Grants Hub is seeking a qualified Graphic Designer II to provide professional internal and external communications for the OVPR and to support external research funding proposals by Iowa State researchers.
The overarching goal of the OVPR is to grow the scale, stature, and impact of research at Iowa State. It does so by fostering interdisciplinary research initiatives that target some of society’s greatest challenges and by providing researchers throughout the university with the tools and support they need to be successful in their endeavors. As the central research development unit within the OVPR, the Grants Hub helps researchers across Iowa State University increase their funding success and build high-impact interdisciplinary research teams and projects.
The Graphic Designer II will primarily work closely with various ISU researchers and interdisciplinary research teams to translate complex concepts, data, processes and organizational structures into visual elements – such as technical figures, diagrams, charts, and infographics – for inclusion in grant proposal documents. Other duties related to grant proposal support may include developing logos, branding, and presentation materials for proposed research initiatives, centers and, institutes.
The Graphic Designer II will also execute development of designs, artwork, infographics and layouts from concept to completion for flyers, brochures, posters, manuals, technical documents, web pages, email campaigns and other print and digital media for the OVPR. Responsibilities will include evaluating and modifying overall graphic brand standards for the OVPR and Grants Hub to deliver consistency and continuity in look and feel of communications across all print and digital platforms, while ensuring compliance with university visual brand standards.
In addition, the Graphic Designer II will provide event support, including promotions and communication, logistics planning and operations activities, and assistance in event documentation through still photography, video and editing.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in graphic design for both print and digital platforms, including a demonstrated ability to create visual elements to enhance the understanding of complex concepts and technical information. They will have strong communications skills, including an ability to ask questions to better grasp technical concepts and information, and be able to manage multiple simultaneous projects with strict deadlines, formatting requirements, and work within project budgets. The successful candidate will also be skilled in using Adobe Creative Suite and other design software as well as Microsoft Office and have the ability to work effectively independently and as part of a group.
