GENERAL MANAGER

SUMMARY: Responsible for the guidance and direction to the management staff by overseeing the successful implementation, administration, and coordination of all activities for the Mechoopda Casino in accordance with the established mission, policies, and goals, with the ultimate objective to provide the maximum profit and return on investment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Salary negotiable based on experience.

  • In conjunction with the Tribal Council, establish and communicate standards and expectations.
  • Implements and communicates an effective organizational strategy, setting objectives for successful operating results and future growth.
  • Work to ensure a high quality of management operations in all areas of the organization.
  • Regularly reviews and evaluates departments performance, working with department executives to take the appropriate action necessary to resolve unsatisfactory results or conditions.
  • Works to achieve and maintain a maximum level of employee service and satisfaction as well as guest service and satisfaction.
  • Facilitates the flow of information throughout the property, and develops effective procedures and controls, by organizing and presiding over regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Maintains appropriate staffing at the executive level by interviewing, selecting, training, scheduling, evaluating, promoting, coaching, counseling, and terminating when necessary.
  • May be called upon to decide outcome of recommendations and suggestions to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, evaluate, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline any employee.
  • Coordinates the development and documentation of the operations business plan, budget, and control process.
  • Report periodically, to Tribal Council, the financial and operational status of the operations.
  • Establishes performance and profit objectives for short-term and long-term goals.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Gaming Commission, NIGA, State Compact and Casino/Hotel policies.
  • Represent the operations with the public and media.
  • Provide for the achievement of the overall mission of the Casino by setting an example for others to follow in terms of behavior, work ethic, dress, and overall performance.
  • Participate in special events, work other shifts and weekend, when necessary.
  • Maintains a consistent and regular attendance record.
  • Properly trains team members.
  • Monitors associate’s performance during their shift. Providing coaching and counseling when necessary.
  • Complete and issue performance reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with all Human Resources policies and procedures, promoting an environment that treats all people with respect, and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any kind.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, health, and environmental policies, procedures, and regulations within the department.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5-7 years casino management experience on an executive level required.
  • Seven to Ten years of experience in the gaming industry.
  • Must have the ability to read, create and interpret budgets and financial data.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be professional, polite, and respectful towards all guests.
  • Must be able to handle extended hours when necessary and varying shifts.
  • Ability to influence others in a positive manner.
  • Ability to handle confidential and privileged information with extreme professionalism.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated patience, tact, and respect.
  • Must be able to work from oral and written instructions.
  • Excellent verbal and active listening skills.
  • Must be able to read and write common vocabulary.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability of calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to interpret financial and accounting documents.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to gather and interpret data, develop recommendations, and analyze results.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Multitask oriented.
  • Able to effectively establish priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional detail and follow-up skills.

  • Provide support to other departments and Enterprises as needed to reinforce the best interest of the Mechoopda Casino.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential function of this job. Must be able to communicate verbally, observe with own eyes, and give and receive information through listening and conversing. Specific vision abilities required by the job include clear vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color. Standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching with hands and arms may also be required while

performing the job duties. Requires moderate lifting up to 25 pounds with occasional lifting of 50 pounds. A portion of the job is sedentary, sitting at a desk and using the phone, computer, and other office equipment. This requires the ability to enter and read material on the computer and Internet.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
