ACCOUNTING AND PAYROLL/BENDFITS LEAD
1. Position Title: Accounting and Payroll / Benefits Lead
2. Department: Business
3. Supervision: Reports to Controller and/or Diocesan Finance Officer
4. Job Summary/Description: This is a mid-level position requiring experience and competence in reviewing and analyzing journal entries, reconciliations and trouble-shooting errors accounting errors. Responsibilities will also include inputting compensation agreements; maintain, auditing and troubleshooting timekeeping issues; providing management with semi-monthly payroll and ad-hoc reports. In addition to all general job duties, the Lead will also be required to update a variety of spreadsheets and assist in special projects as directed. Will work closely with the Controller to address a variety of questions and issues that arise from working with the parishes of the diocese and their wide-ranging issues.
5. Duties & Responsibilities
· Works within the Business Office to ensure the completion of the general ledger with the entering of invoices, checks and deposits.
· Verifies accuracy of accounting and finance information by reconciling, running financial reports.
· Ensures proper input hours into payroll system.
· Performs month end and year end close processes.
· Ensures that deposits are posted, payables, disbursements, periodic liability payments, journal entries, payroll information and adjustments to receivable balances are accurately posted.
· Assists parishes with entering and reconciling parish savings and loan statements and billing statements.
· Provides backup to other Accountants, Cashier and staff.
· Review timekeeping for hours worked discrepancies and follow up.
· Assists with W2, 1095 and 1099 filings.
· Adjust pay records or unpaid time off for salary paid employees.
· Responsible for the preparation and processing of payroll for Pastoral Center & CKRC.
· Process wage garnishments.
· Process changes to salary, compensation, deductions, bonus, PTO.
· Analyze payroll issues as they arise and recommend corrective actions.
· Assist parishes in onboarding and payroll if needed.
· Assist with benefit enrollments.
· Responsible for invoice reconciling and benefits billing.
· Other duties as assigned.

7. Education/Experience
· Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Human Resources or related field; and
· 3-5 years pertinent experience above listed Duties and responsibilities in processing payroll for a large number of employees and/or multiple locations within the payroll department.
8. Skills
· Capacity to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
· Experience and proficiency with QuickBooks and Microsoft Office as well as use of multiple software programs required.
· Working understanding of FLSA as it relates to worktime, overtime and compensation.
· Prior experience with a third-party payroll software (ADP, Paychex, QuickBooks, etc.) preferred.
· Exceptional communication, grammar, spelling and proofreading skills with the ability to follow-up effectively with all levels of staff.
· Excellent customer service skills.
· Capability to prioritize multiple tasks, organize workload, adapt quickly to change and deliver under the pressure of deadlines.
· Ability to work independently and in a time sensitive environment.
9. Working Condition/Environment
· Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
