OPPD's Operations Department is seeking a leader to join team!

The Supervisor, Grid Operations Performance and Communications is responsible for operational performance improvement execution and process integration for the Grid Operations organization. Additional responsibilities include supervising and directing the work, training, and quality results of the System Operations Specialist (SOS) staff. The incumbent is accountable for providing timely operational communications to internal and external stakeholders through maintaining the electric system functional integrity by analyzing both scheduled and emergent changes to the system, ensuring their correct representation within the OMS operational model to ensure maximum continuity of electric service to customer-owners. The position is responsible for the motivation, coaching, and mentoring of departmental personnel, evaluating their performance, and identifying strengths and weakness within core and technical competencies while developing activities, training opportunities, goals, and objectives to improve them.

Specific accountabilities of this role include:

  • Supervise, support, and provide direction to the staff that are providing technical assistance in support of the various clerical, drafting, and design aspects involved to maintain accurate and complete historical records (computer and hardcopy) of all electric system information (including G-TECH data, OMS circuit records, Substation prints and one-line diagrams).
  • Lead the planning and accurate documentation of distribution switching to maintain electric system integrity, as well as field worker safety in compliance with the District’s Hold Order System, Grounding and Switching Procedures, by creating and managing daily ticket listing for transmission and distribution operations activities.
  • Design and analyze reports to identify and implement process improvements.
  • Effectively apply OPPD’s Management Leadership Practices (MLP’s) in planning and assigning the work of staff members. Build and maintain a competent team through effective recruiting, selection and ongoing development.
    • Managerial Planning – Determine how to achieve the goals of the unit/team through effective metrics development, individual task assignment, seeking input from your team, and employee development
    • Managerial Meetings – Conduct managerial meetings with staff on a regular and predictable schedule to provide coaching opportunities/ context setting/ development/ clarity of task / feedback …
    • Coaching/Feedback for Competency of Role – Provide coaching and feedback opportunities to staff to continuously improve their competency in the work of their role
    • Performance Appraisals – Conduct and complete performance appraisal conversations and documentation requirements per defined schedule.

Qualifications


Required:

  • Degree in a technical discipline, communications/business-related area or equivalent work experience in Energy Delivery or Customer Service Operations, including the ability to read and interpret complex circuit and one line diagrams.
  • A minimum of three (3) years experience in distribution/transmission power systems, electrical engineering (or related areas) and a working knowledge of commonly used software applications (Asset Suite, PeopleSoft).
  • Familiarity with or the ability to acquire knowledge of OPPD’s EMS, OMS, CAD (mobile computing), ACO, G-TECH, Byers Map viewer, iCIS, T&D Equipment Database is highly desirable.
  • Leadership skills and the ability to make rapid, accurate and reliable decisions.
  • The proven ability to perform under extremely stressful conditions on a daily basis (possibly for extended periods of time) while performing in a calm, professional manner while utilizing excellent customer service skills with all internal and external customer inquiries is required.
  • Availability for afterhours work as required.

Desired:

  • Strong understanding of OPPD’s Collective Bargaining Agreements
  • Experience with callout administration
  • Knowledge of Outage Management System (OMS) internal/external notifications and outage metrics
  • Demonstrated capability with technology solution implementation, schedule adherence, and outage coordination
