OVERVIEW

Radom is searching for a Staff Scientist to assist the Chief Technology Officer in all scientific and advanced engineering matters related to Radom’s current products and future business development. Radom is particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate both the analytical and experimental skills and thrive in a fast-moving applied research environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct independent research over a range of multi-physics topics with particular emphasis and understanding of the commercial aspects of the technology.
  • Create succinct summaries of literature research over a broad range of information sources by drawing on a broad and solid understanding of physics and engineering.
  • Perform numerical simulations using commercial software in areas such as electromagnetic fields, plasma, thermodynamics, and/or fluid dynamics.
  • Develop and maintain custom, small scale numerical analysis codes to assist R&D efforts.
  • Design complex experiments and direct and assist technicians in creating proof-of-concept experimental models.
  • Select and operate complex diagnostic instrumentation and collect and analyze measurement results.
  • Provide innovative contributions leading to patents and publications in scientific and trade journals and conferences.
  • Assist product development and engineering teams on scientific/product matters.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • M.S. in Physics, Engineering, or related field
  • Experience in three or more of the following areas: atmospheric thermal plasma, low-pressure non-equilibrium plasma, electromagnetism, microwaves, radio-frequency, plasma physics, thermodynamics, gas flow dynamics, optical spectroscopy, molecular optical emission spectra, mass spectroscopy, gasification
  • Numerical programming experience in Matlab or Python (C/C++/Visual Studio desirable)
  • Experience with one or more relevant CAD programs, such as HFSS, Fluent, Spice, Solidworks
  • Experience using three or more of the following instruments: multimeter, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, optical spectrometer, mass spectrometer, thermo-couple, Langmuir probe, gas analyzer
  • Ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced applied research environment
  • Willingness to expand professional expertise by learning and working outside personal comfort zone
  • Ability to consider engineering and commercial aspects of scientific results
  • Ability to plan, design, setup, and conduct experiments
  • Ability to direct and assist technicians
  • Ability to summarize and communicate technical information clearly and succinctly
  • Experience using PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
  • Ability to occasionally travel within the US and overseas in support of customers and luminaries

DESIRABLE

  • Ph.D. degree
  • Industrial experience

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
