General Purpose

Monitor security and respond to events, take the appropriate action to either remediate or escalate appropriately. The security officer I will follow documented procedures to ensure timely resolution or escalation of events. The ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of physical security and customer service. Officers will be working in security environment in a 24/7/365 atmosphere.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Security Officer I /Security Officer II include:

  • Monitor and manage physical security alarms and alerts based on criticality.
  • Provide effective first-tier problem recognition to mitigate interruptions to service by troubleshooting or escalating potential threats affecting information technology and or physical infrastructure.
  • Perform security patrols of designated areas on foot.
  • Watch for irregular or unusual conditions that may create security concerns or safety hazards.
  • Sound alarms or call police or fire department in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
  • Notify violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking or carrying forbidden articles.
  • Permit authorized persons to enter property and monitors entrances and exits.
  • Observe departing personnel to protect against theft of company property and ensure that authorized removal of property is conducted within appropriate client requirements.
  • Investigate and prepare reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities.
  • Provide assistance to employees and visitors in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Utilize standard procedures to effectively process infrastructure alarms and alerts while maintaining regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare required documentation for a given event and follow-up per the applicable regulatory requirement or standards.
  • Use monitoring tools to effectively manage the alarms and alerts.
  • Maintain basic understanding of physical infrastructure and access control systems used by the company as well as software and other technologies used for physical security.
  • Respond to inquiries and provide basic problem resolution based on established policies and procedures or past experiences.
  • Be able to safely operate a vehicle to remote sites.
  • Conduct security assessments based on alarms, cameras and on scene investigations
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.

Requirements

The requirements for the Security Officer I include:

  • Associates degree in law enforcement, homeland security, or related field. (Typically three years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess an associate’s degree.)
  • Basic knowledge of security principles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows and Office applications.
  • Possess superior customer service skills and professional demeanor.
  • Experience working in a Security Operations, law enforcement, or military environment
  • Effective communication skills including listening, oral and writing skills to process information timely and accurately.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Availability to work any shift, including holidays, in a 24/7/365-day work environment.


The requirements for the Security Officer II include:

  • Security Officer II must meet the same requirements as the Security Officer I role with an additional three years of related experience in law enforcement, military, or security roles.

Preferences

Preferences for the Security Officer I / Security Officer II include:

  • Previous experience working in a physical security monitoring center or similar environment preferred.
