Position Summary

Big Bend Community College (BBCC), a rural college serving vibrant, culturally rich communities in the Columbia Basin of Central Washington invites applications for a an Outreach Design Specialist in the college's Title V Project HEART Grant. This position is exempt from Civil Service and is overtime-eligible.

The HEART Project is a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) federal grant with an emphasis in Healthcare, Enrollment, Academic Retention, and Transfer (HEART). The Outreach Design Coordinator will provide support in developing and publishing multimedia content for a wide range of student services departments and academic programs on the BBCC webpage, social media platforms, and for general outreach aligned with the college’s Vision, Mission, and Guiding Principles while meeting key deliverables under the Title V grant.

This position works closely with the Grant Director, Communications Department, and campus departments to ensure integration of Big Bend's communications & marketing efforts. This includes working collaboratively with all college departments and programs and coordinating strategies aligned with the college's strategic plan and grant objectives.

Essential Job Duties

Primary responsibilities include but may not be limited to the following:

  • Website content creation and management, and support of the site's consistency and relevancy. Apply the college's brand standards and educate others about those standards.
  • Work collaboratively with a variety of internal and external customers to develop and execute strategies to enhance the college’s internet presence and convey an image that is community-oriented, inviting, and progressive.
  • Create and edit content that is accurate, engaging, and creates a magnetic image that attracts readers; create web page templates for faculty and staff; develop multimedia projects for the website.
  • Content management and monitoring of the college's social media assets to ensure meaningful interactions and increase followers.
  • Assist with graphic design, photography and videography projects and campus needs.
  • Coordinate communications and marketing projects for college departments as assigned by leadership.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of advertising, public relations and promotional campaigns and strategies.
  • Develop and maintain a strong and productive relationship with campus departments.
  • Work collaboratively with users to develop strategies for incorporating relevant social media techniques into college culture and services.
  • Provide ongoing support and training for employees and students on website content creation, social media, use of marketing templates, and communications.

OTHER WORK RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  • Ensure no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes, but is not limited to security and safety, understanding of safety data sheets (SDS), equipment, fire, disaster, safe lifting, and body mechanics.
  • Ensure compliance with college policies and procedures and state and federal regulations.
  • Conduct self in a professional manner and ensure the interaction with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive to the college’s values.
  • Work and interact effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators, faculty, and others of various cultural, socio-economic, ability, and other backgrounds.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as may be required.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in graphic design and layout. Strong skills in Adobe Creative Cloud, including InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in social media, including strategy, content and metrics.
  • Familiarity with emerging design and social media trends, as well as the tools to achieve them.
  • Effectively convey ideas and information through written and interpersonal communication.
  • Enthusiastic, energetic, self-motivated, creative with a high attention to detail. Strong organizational, prioritization, project-management, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner.
  • Ability to learn new software quickly and efficiently.
  • Ability to perform job duties with or without direction and to work and thrive independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups, and a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.
  • Demonstrate ability or ability to learn within 6 months of hire to create accessible content in both electronic and print formats as appropriate to the position. Examples include Word/PDF documents and web/learning management system content.

Minimum & Desirable Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, studio arts, graphic design, or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Two (2) years of full-time equivalent (FTE) experience in communications, marketing, or public relations.
  • Demonstrated strong familiarity with social media.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud, including InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Experience coordinating projects that involve the participation of multiple parties such as consultants, students, staff, community partners, and/or others.
  • Experience with graphic design, photography, and videography.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficient in the use of Adobe Creative Suite products (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.).
  • Experience with content management systems such as WordPress.
  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS.
  • Bilingual, English/Spanish proficiency.
  • Knowledge of web ADA compliance requirements.
  • Cross-culture competency; the ability to understand people from different cultures and engage with them effectively.
  • Higher education work experience, preferably providing or supporting outreach and/or enrollment (admissions, financial aid, etc.).
