The Email Operations Manager is a critical position for AAOS as email is the most important marketing channel, we use to communicate with AAOS Members, drive revenue and build brand loyalty. Under the direction of the Digital Strategy Director, this individual oversees all email in support of the organization’s business and communication objectives. This individual collaborates with Marketing, Communications and Membership team members, technical staff, and product/business owners and works with the AAOS’ marketing automation service provider to translate business/marcom goals into effective purposeful email campaigns.

  • Oversee, maintain, and update the email calendar for the organization while collaborating with product/business owners to prioritize and schedule all programs on a regular basis.
  • With the support of the Digital Strategy Director, create strategy, framework, processes, and best practices to be used AAOS-wide, including training of all inexperienced users on the platform, and updating and sharing adjustments and enhancements as needed.
  • Collaborate with product/business owners on the development and implementation of end-to-end marketing automation templates and campaigns, including audience segmentation, creative development, formatting, testing, deployment, and monitoring/success measurement.
  • Execute and test strategies around key email and e-newsletter components such as content, timing, audience segmentation, subject lines, and frequency to drive maximum performance of campaigns.
  • Create, update, and maintain transactional emails and trigger/nurture campaigns.
  • Compile, track and analyze email metrics and other key performance indicators and make recommendations to end users based on insights from analysis and comparisons to industry benchmarks.
  • Interface with the AAOS’ marketing automation service provider and other third-party products and service providers on a regular basis to ensure support/service commitments are being met and to trouble shoot and resolve problems and issues.
  • Support the testing and integration of new email capabilities and tools.
  • Monitor email deliverability, oversee email database hygiene and ensure compliance with CAN-SPAM regulations and international data collection policies such as GDPR.
  • Keep abreast of and communicate trends and developments related to email marketing, including best practices and benchmarking of key metrics as well as updates to email code and templates, changes in privacy policies and more.
  • Support the Digital Strategy Director on the optimal use of email marketing in the development of integrated marketing campaigns.

  • Up to 10 days per year

Qualifications:

Required:

  • 4 - 5+ years of experience in email marketing
  • Keen understanding of and experience with email concepts, key metrics, and best practices
  • Extensive experience working with marketing automation/email services (e.g., HubSpot, Marketo, etc.) planning and developing automated workflows for targeted, trigger/nurture campaigns designed to engage potential and existing customers
  • Experience with reporting and analytics
  • Strong written communication and people skills
  • Attention to detail and proven project management skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Experience with HTML/CSS, MS Office

Desired:

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in marketing, e-commerce, or relevant field
  • Experience working for a professional society or association and/or experience in membership marketing
  • Work experience with healthcare professional audiences
