The Bloomington Fire Department is looking for an enthusiastic and dependable Digital Creator Intern who wants to jumpstart their career and gain valuable experience. The Digital Creator Intern will assist in the support of administration, training and prevention divisions. Creating, producing, and editing major training/prevention videos and printed materials. The intern will gain hands-on experience in live fire department functions.

The Bloomington Fire Department is an all-hazards department. We operate out of 5 fire stations and employ 120 members. The department responds to 13,000 calls annually. Our training division conducts 10,000 hours of training every year. The department has dedicated training grounds where most of this training is conducted. Our prevention division is constantly serving the community through community risk reduction measures. In addition, the prevention division is responsible for all public interactions. These include media relations, press releases and website management. Our social media platform boasts 15,000 followers and growing.

This internship position will focus on the development of videos for training, PSA’s for prevention and working to improve our website and social media platforms.

Examples of Duties

  • Help maintain City of Bloomington-Fire website with updates.
  • Coordinate closely with the Public Information Officer on social media, collateral, and web content to promote events.
  • Create videos from live fire and emergency medical training.
  • Provide support for on-going fire prevention activities including public relation events, school visits.
  • Create fire safety messaging including thinking creatively about messages, as well as implementing the logistics of campaigns (mailings, social media posts, e-mails, phone calls).
  • Compose or improving creative communications with administration, including quarterly and annual reports.
  • Edit, caption, keyword, and properly archive and organize all images and files.

Typical Qualifications

  • Exceptional phone etiquette.
  • Research, writing, editing and proof-reading skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office/Google (Word/Excel) applications.
  • Understand and actively use social media platforms, including, but not limited to, Facebook, Tik Tok, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram.
  • Must learn quickly, thrive in an environment with competing demands and quickly changing priorities, and be able to thrive in an environment.
  • Must be able to create, edit and produce videos and creative documents.
  • Extremely detail-oriented and organized.
  • Professional, consistent, reliable, proactive.
  • Self-motivated, flexible team player with a positive attitude, demonstrate ability to multi-task and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of the social media landscape and how to capture engaging content for specific platforms.
  • Must be able to pass a respiratory fit test.
  • Must be able to work outside.
  • Must wear firefighter personal protective equipment and film in live fire conditions.
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs unassisted.
