Lowland Credit Union began operation on June 12, 1953 at the Lowland site of the American Enka Company located in Lowland, Tennessee. Active employees of that site were eligible to join. Some years later, the field of membership was expanded to include retired employees and family relations of members and later the rule was made that once you were a member you could remain a member always. Today American Enka is no longer in operation in the area but the credit union is supported by over forty sponsoring groups.

Lowland Credit Union is a state chartered credit union insured by NCUA. There are two offices serving members in Morristown and Newport, Tennessee. Most of those original members from 1953 have remained loyal to this day and have enjoyed the growth from a small bookkeeping ledger book recording simple savings and loan accounts to today’s high technology with a wide range of products and services.

Job Posting: Technology Specialist

Position Purpose: Install, upgrade, and maintain computer hardware and peripheral equipment. Coordinate technology needs with outsourced vendors for efficiency and cost effectiveness. Assist SR Management in researching, planning, and implementing new technologies to improve member
(customer) access and staff efficiency.

Job Responsibilities:

• Install or modify data communication systems. Provide technical assistance and consultation in the use and operation of complex computer operating systems

• Investigate new techniques, equipment, and data processing methods. Evaluate technical requirements for new or upgrades in hardware/software.

• Maintain databases and libraries including systems security functions

• Design and maintain systems documentation according to applicable policies and standards. Ensure that documentation meets all security regulations for the credit union.

• Coordinate technology resources including main system, telecommunications network, telephone system(s), and personal computer connectivity.

• Evaluate and procure new technology and computer supplies according to budgetary line items.

• Keep abreast of state-of-the-art hardware developments.

• Evaluate technology proposals and contracts and provide recommendations to management on vendors, bids, outsourcing, etc.

• Coordinate the services of vendors to ensure quality of service and timeliness. Review vendor contracts for compliance. Function as the contracts administrator for all outsourced technology services.

• Ensure that all software licenses are maintained.

• Provide & run backup procedures that maintain the integrity and security of the credit union’s infrastructure.

• Research and diagnose IT problems within the entire infrastructure, troubleshoot, and provide solutions.

• Install and test new software for both the network and the individual users.

• Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

• Individual must have background knowledge of computer operating systems and technical ability for light cabling, networking, etc

• Individual must be trustworthy, a self-starter, and be able to work with little to no supervision.
