HYDRO EXCAVATION TRUCK OPERATOR

Hydro-Vac, Inc. is a leader in Hydro Excavation, Sewer Jetting, and Sewer Televising, and has been family owned and operated for over 20 years. We are dedicated to providing the best service to all our customers with the help of experienced crews and top-of-the-line equipment. Our service area covers five states.

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Hydro Excavation Truck Operator to join our team. You may also be cross trained as a Sewer Jetting/Vacuum Combo Truck Operator.

In this role, you will be responsible for operating the Hydro Excavation Trucks (also known as Hydrovac Trucks) and executing job assignments safely and effectively. You will be using high-pressure water to cut through earth materials and vacuum systems to perform minor and major excavation tasks, maintain equipment, and troubleshoot mechanical issues. You may also be performing utility locating around high profile gas mains or electrical conduits.

The ideal candidate will be a team player with strong communication skills, attention to detail, and experience operating excavation equipment. They must hold a valid CDL Class A (Manual Shifting) driver's license and a clean driving record, and be enrolled or willing to enroll in the 49ers Operators Union. They must also pass a pre-employment drug test, as well as quarterly and random drug tests.

Responsibilities include:

  • Safe and effective operation of the Hydro Excavation-Vacuum system and equipment maintenance
  • Perform excavation work around high profile utilities
  • Operate the high-pressure water wand and perform minor repairs if needed
  • Communication with team members and demonstrating excellent customer service
  • Perform work on new and existing manholes, sometimes from 40+ feet high
  • Troubleshooting minor mechanical issues and performing repairs
  • Effectively delegating tasks, in a respectful way, to laborers
  • Attendance at safety meetings and completion of tasks in a safe and professional manner

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience operating excavation equipment
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Physical ability to lift 75 pounds, climb ladders, and work in loud environments
  • Clear communication skills (Must be fluent in English)
  • Have a working smart phone capable of downloading your payroll app
  • You MUST have an understanding of basic blueprints, or be willing to take classes in order to learn.
  • Clean driving record
  • CDL Class A (with Manual Shifting)
  • We prefer that you have a Tanker Endorsement
  • Absolutely no drug use on or off the clock. (The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration prohibits the use of mariguana, whether it is medical or not, for any commercial DOT driver.)
  • MUST have an eye for detail and overall safety
  • Enrolled or willing to enroll in the Local 49ers Operators Union
  • Currently hold or be able to obtain a Medical Card
  • Strong stomach, as some job assignments may involve cleaning live sanitary sewers
  • Willingness to travel for short-term work assignments and training
  • Willingness to be on call one to two weekends per month

Benefits:

This is a full-time Local 49ers Operators Union, Highway Heavy Class Code, position with benefits including health insurance, pension, and annual union raises, as well as paid medical and dental, and a 401k/pension. We offer free union training and skills classes, a family-oriented work culture, and top-of-the-line equipment and vehicles. Upon 90 days of successful employment, you will receive an annual Per-Diem in order to buy new boots, or related PPE. You will also receive a reimbursement of your union enrollment fee (if applicable). The starting pay is $37.00 - $43.00 per hour.

We also have new shop facilities that are stocked daily with water, sports drinks, and a variety of snacks. All PPE is provided at no extra cost to you. You will have the opportunity to attend our annual company Christmas party, and company game nights hosted at various locations. Most importantly, you will be a part of a family-oriented work environment where you are valued.

The start date will be around Mid to Late March, but could be sooner depending on weather conditions.
