JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Human Resource Operations Specialist

SUPERVISOR: Human Resources Director

LOCATION: Omaha Tribe of Nebraska

Human Resources Department

SUMMARY: The Human Resource Operations Specialist is responsible for the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department including hiring and interviewing staff, administering pay, benefits, and leave, and enforcing organization policies, practices, laws and regulations pertaining to the Omaha Tribe.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental supervisors/directors to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Maintain official Personnel and Confidential files. Ensure all files are properly secured, opened, closed, filed and maintained according to Human Resource and Tribal/State/Federal regulations.
  • Perform a wide variety of clerical duties, including but not limited to, filing, shredding, faxing, photocopying, processing mail, ordering supplies/publications, schedule meetings/trainings, create forms, employment letters and reports from rough draft, as directed.
  • Assist with constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Conducts or acquires background checks, reference checks, exit interviews and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Assist with pre-employment, random and suspect Alcohol and Drug testing process.
  • Implements new hire orientation, and employee recognition programs.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, grievances and investigations.
  • Performs periodic audits of HR files and records to ensure that all required documents are in compliance, collected and filed appropriately.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and tribal employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Coordinates with the Payroll Department for payroll related inquiries for employees.
  • Oversees the scheduling, assignments, and daily workflow of subordinate staff in the department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • At least one year of human resource management experience preferred.

CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSE:

  • Possess a valid Driver’s License.
  • Tribal Human Resources Professional Certification preferred, or must obtain with (1) year of employment.
  • SHRM-CP a plus.

  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office or related software.
  • Must be willing to occasionally travel to meetings and training.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS systems.

PLEASE NOTE: P.L. 93-638, Indian Preference and Tribal Employment Rights Ordinance, (TERO), will be practiced, however all qualified applicants will be considered.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $23.00 per hour
