Job Description: Cashier Associate

Position Summary:

The Cashier Associate position is responsible for the point of sale operations of our store and plays a key role in providing amazing customer service by engaging the customer, being knowledgeable about product locations, and maintains a continual understanding of Eldredge and Ace promotional sales and programs. This position also backs up the Hardware Sales Associates with merchandising, pricing, and product location assistance.

Essential Duties:

  • Greet all customers that come into the store or that are within 10 feet from your position.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all customers with passion and enthusiasm.
  • Recommend appropriate solutions and add-on sale items for customers projects.
  • Perform all tasks/projects in the store including such activities as cashiering, merchandising, inventory, pricing, store restocking, store cleanliness, sales, and operating equipment.
  • Source product via approved vendors and process special orders for customers using best store practices.
  • Maintain awareness of all promotions and advertisements.
  • Solicit customers to open an Ace Rewards card.
  • Accurately and efficiently ring up customers on cash registers.
  • Issue receipts, refunds, credits or change that is due to our customers.
  • Maintain an orderly appearance of all areas and ensure store supplies and merchandise are stocked.
  • Work with the management team to achieve established sales and productivity goals.
  • Assist in maintaining the good working condition of store equipment.
  • Ensure that end-caps, dump bins and feature displays are properly merchandised, priced, and maintained. Notice incorrect retail practices, and correct them immediately.
  • Practice professional workplace etiquette amongst fellow coworkers in person, on the phone, and walkie talkies.
  • Answer phone calls, and provide phone operator and contractor counter backup coverage.
  • Attend mandatory meetings and events coordinated by supervisors and management.
  • Comply and uphold all company policies and safety procedures in the company handbook.
  • Other responsibilities, tasks, and projects as assigned by the store management team.

Education/Experience:

No experience or formal education required. Experience as a cashier is a plus.

Language Ability:

Must be able to read and interpret documents; speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.

Reasoning Ability:

Should be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; also be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

Must be proficient with using computers, their applications, and other technological equipment in the purview of a retail setting. This includes but is not limited to: Windows OS, Excel, Outlook, Word, Chrome, online shopping interfaces, point of sale systems, printers, and handheld scan guns.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Flexible hours of availability (including weekends) are required due to the demands of the retail environment.

Physical Demands:

The minimum physical requirements for this position include:

  • Lifting at least 10 to 20 lbs on a routine basis; lifting may exceed 50 lbs in certain instances;
  • Bending, climbing and twisting are routine; the position requires the ability to retrieve, stock, and move product;
  • Manual dexterity; working with cash registers and computers, assembly of some products; ability to quickly make appropriate change for customers
  • The ability to see and read product labels, dispense product knowledge, and communicate with our customer base.
  • Ability to stand and walk in a store consistently for up to 4 hours or more at a time.
  • Ability to physically handle all merchandise purchased by customers to scan, bag and place back in the customers shopping cart.
  • Move and handle boxes of merchandise and fixtures throughout the store, which entails lifting and performing all functions as set for in the sales associate job description.
  • Ability to restock all shelves with product and ability to clean and dust all shelves daily.
  • Ability to move stock with carts, hand trucks, and pallet jacks daily.
