Accounting Specialist -Cash Control-

This is a Full-time, 8hour day shift, Monday-Friday position reporting the Director of Finance.

Non-exempt, pay range $24.36-$35.07

The main responsibility of the Accounting Specialist – Cash Control is to prepare and balance the bank deposit on a daily basis. This process includes receiving incoming transactions from various sources, providing/researching the general ledger coding for all non-A/R GL receipts and balancing the deposit totals to the daily posting log and general ledger transactions. Other job responsibilities include submitting cash transfers, cash box audits and other cash related duties.The Accounting Specialist – Cash Control covers other Accounting Specialist duties during vacation periods and assists with additional general ledger duties and audit schedules, as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • 1. Daily cash deposit – Prepares, balances and provides reports to cash posters for all incoming deposits on a daily basis. Delivers deposit to bank on recurring schedule.
  • 2. Petty Cash – Replenishes petty cash, as needed, to keep adequate change/denominations on hand.
  • 3. General Ledger Reconciliations – Reviews/reconciles selected general ledger accounts on a monthly basis. Proposes adjusting entries, as necessary.
  • 4. Posting log – Enters daily transactions into Business Office/Finance shared posting log, balances and works with Business Office and Finance staff to resolve differences.
  • 5. Cash transfers – Submits cash transfers between accounts to transfer funds according to department policy.
  • 6. Cleared checks – Enter cleared checks listing from the Treasurer’s office for bank reconciliation purposes.
  • 7. Unclaimed Property – Researches old, outstanding checks to either void and re-issue, or move to unclaimed property.
  • 8. Cash box audits – Completes periodic audits of Hospital cash boxes. Trains staff on proper use of cash box and required documentation, etc…
Other duties/responsibilities:
9. Acts as backup for Accounts Payable during vacation/time off.
Responsibilities include:
a. Timely processing of Accounts Payable invoices and requests for payment.
b. Reviewing invoices for proper coding/distribution.
c. Following current procedures for processing/payment of use taxes.
d. Printing/mailing Accounts Payable checks.
e. Monthly B&O tax reporting.
10. Prepares selected month-end reports, as required.
11. Prepares selected audit and cost report schedules as part of the Finance team.
12. Performs other related duties and special projects, as assigned.

Required Education and Experience
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Associates degree in Accounting preferred.
3. 3 + years of experience in bookkeeping or accounting.
