YACS Creative Learners from Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade are provided appropriate arts-integrated learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.

With a dedicated focus on improving student outcomes, our school-level and network-level leadership is committed to supporting teachers in becoming transformative educators. Reporting to the Principal, the Master Teacher supports the Principal in his/her leadership of the school’s academic program. While the exact responsibilities of this position may vary based on placement ( i.e. Lower, Middle, High School), the Master Teacher works to achieve the academic priorities of the school. The Master Teacher works with the Principal to support teacher development, implement instructional performance management, evaluate support personnel, successfully implement the curriculum and meet all other academic goals defined by the district and the Principal. The Master Teacher works closely with department chairs and other school leadership team members to provide students with appropriate arts-integrated learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth that are aligned with the school’s mission and vision.

Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Leadership

  • Communicates the school’s vision and goals, setting strategies to achieve goals, regularly reviewing progress, and adapting as needed
  • Serves as a resource to enhance teacher proficiency in implementing the curriculum.
  • Provides instructional leadership in the specific subject areas as required
  • Work with Principal to create an instructional schedule and curriculum to be most effective for your students;
  • Work with the Principal to regularly analyze school wide data, plan interventions and make curricular adjustments;
  • Manage the interim assessment process to ensure that teachers are using data to drive instruction
  • Collaborate and lead interim assessment data dives
  • Employ varied coaching strategies to support teachers in mastering the essentials of effective instruction (e.g. planning meetings, modeling, feedback sessions, peer observations, etc.)
  • Work to ensure that each child is progressing at least one grade level or below proficient to proficient or reaching ambitious targets for school wide levels of proficiency/mastery;
  • Plan units and lessons with teachers or groups of teachers and provide feedback on lessons, units, and assessments;
  • Design and run high-quality professional development sessions for teachers and leaders that are aligned to the needs of the school
  • Engage assigned teachers in a thorough, thoughtful, actionable coaching cycle once a year
  • Observes and gives feedback to teachers, facilitates instructional workshops for teachers, and provides coaching and exemplary models of instructional practices in teachers’ classrooms as needed.
  • Fosters a relationship of support and collaboration across the school.
  • Works with the principal and other leadership team members to identify the school’s needs, research and identify educational strategies that will meet the specific needs of the particular school, implements the strategies, and provides ongoing evaluation and feedback, to enable immediate adjustments, as necessary, to ensure teacher and student success.
  • Supports the school in implementing performance management.
  • Oversees record keeping for academic priorities as defined by the principal, including efforts to track individual student needs, support teacher development, monitor student progress, implement special programs and track progress towards school level academic goals.
  • Serves as a resource to the principal in achieving academic growth targets.
  • Studies emerging research that strengthens the implementation of the curriculum and develops training and support tools that incorporate appropriate new learning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents, leadership, and other colleagues.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Professional Conduct and Other

  • Exhibit professional judgment and responsibility at all times.
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  • Participate in assigned morning, lunch, and afternoon duties.
  • Follow attendance policy as assigned by supervisor.
  • Perform other functions that may be assigned by the Administration and/or supervisor.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings, school events, and serve on staff committees as required.
