Job Summary

Our Calverton, NY Growing facility needs a seasoned Transportation Manager to execute the shipping of plants, manage the daily labor of frivers and docks personnel and maximize equipment use and costs. Must have proven experience with Supply Chain management. We are looking for a candidate that will build a strong team and elevate our current processes and take us to the next level. While additionally, holding high standards for on time and accurate deliveries. Reports to the Op Manager.

Job Description

• Hire and train drivers on delivery policies and procedures. Counsel and coach employees on a regular basis.
• Teach driver safety, including performing after-action reviews and or terminations following any incidents.
• Set up and dispatch shipments with company drivers and outsourced shippers.
• Use company software to route and prioritize orders.
• Maximize utilization of equipment, return to leasing company when not in use.
• Compliance with all Federal and State transportation laws.
• Coordinate with other facility managers and staff, materials to be cross docked, weekly.
• Supervise and give direction to dock personnel.
• Control driver hours and outsourced 3rd party driver costs.
• Negotiate rates with outside brokers (when needed).
• Determine the most cost-effective or efficient means of transporting products to final destination.
• Work closely with order gen to optimize freight to stores.
• Ensure shipments are accurate, correct all mistakes and evaluate processes to reduce mistakes.
• Oversee daily receiving of goods.
• Inspect physical condition of vehicles and equipment daily, initiate appropriate actions to remedy unsatisfactory findings.
• Communicate directly with clients as necessary to answer questions, relay shipping updates, and handle complaints calmly and efficiently.
• Update or correct any delivery tickets in timely fashion.

Required Characteristics

• 10 years logistics management experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in supply chain logistics or transportation operations in supply chain, logistics, or sourcing environments.
• Experience in Managing and supervising employees.
