McKinley Architecture and Engineering is seeking qualified individuals that will be able to acclimate quickly and "hit the ground running". McKinley Architecture and Engineering currently has three offices, Wheeling, WV - Wexford, PA and Charleston, WV. HERE WE GROW AGAIN; to accommodate our growth we are opening a new location in Martinsburg, WV in 2023 with positions available in all locations. Our P.E. staff is responsible for developing and leading the process to manage the expression of engineering, design, and project management. They act as a manager to ensure that MKA projects follow the appropriate design vision, participate as a team member on major global projects, and document the objectives, requirements, and recommendations in the MKA standards.

While this is NOT a remote job, a certain amount of remote work is possible based on employer needs and employee experience level.

Job Description Summary: The Structural Engineer focuses on the structural design of projects to serviceability and efficient structural systems for buildings and elements. This Professional collaborates effectively with a variety of team members to develop both proven and innovative solutions to project requirements.

Position Qualifications & Skills:

• Bachelor’s or post-graduate degree in Structural Engineering or related field
• Six to 20 years of experience as a P.E. in site structural design of buildings or similar structures;
• Ability to immediately attain P.E. Registration in West Virginia and additional state registrations as required.
• Strong design skills with proficiency in Autodesk products and other computer-aided design software;
• Ability to understand, develop, and communicate design concepts quickly through verbal and written communication and hand sketches.
• Ability to perform all structural design services in accordance with the Standard of Care.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Contribute to developing initial structural concept planning and site analysis. This includes performing site visits as needed to review existing structures, reviewing geotechnical and survey data, project restrictions, environmental factors, governmental, code and client requirements and prepare reports thus;

2. Collaborate with team members to develop initial concepts through use of hand sketching, Autodesk products and other design software and processes for structural design portion of projects for review by the design team and client;

3. Use similar methods to incorporate structural design concepts into design documents to produce Drawings and Specifications for bidding and construction;

4. Contribute to the development of Requests-for-Proposals for specialty consultants and assist Client and team in soliciting and recommendations for contracting of these surfaces including but not limited to: geotechnical, forensic entities and other specialty structural consultants;

5. Perform site inspections during construction, documenting progress and conditions and corrective work required;

6. Support Construction Contract Administration activities;

7. Prepare cost estimates for structural related items to inform design service proposals and owner construction cost budgets and estimates and review and comment to Bid and Change Order proposals from Contractors;

8. Preparation of calculations and other structural specific permit requirements; and

9. Other tasks as assigned.
