POSITION SUMMARY:

Serve as Psychological Health (PH) Outreach Program Team members at the US Navy and Marine Reserve Psychological Health Outreach Program (PHOP) Regional Command Components (RCCs). The goals of the PHOP are: 1) to create a PH “safety net” for Navy or Marine Reservists and their families, who are at risk of not having stress injuries identified and treated in an expeditious manner; 2) to improve the overall PH of Navy or Marine Reservists and their families; and 3) to develop and implement long-term strategies to improve PH support services for Navy or Marine Reservists and their families required by Department of Defense instructions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Provide outreach services to larger reserve populations identified as being at risk for PH issues. Assess unit members to detect possible stress injuries using BUMED-approved PH screening tools and assist members and their families identified as needing referrals to get the necessary follow-on care and follow-up.
  • Coordinate all activities with their regional PH Outreach Coordinators.
  • Refer any reservist identified as needing intensive follow-up PH care to the Outreach Coordinators and Hybrid Outreach Team Members for continued assistance and follow-up as needed. Assist the Outreach Coordinators with identifying resourcing options for those referred.
  • Provide periodic briefs at NOSCs to demobilizing Reservists on the identification of signs and symptoms of stress related issues, resulting problems, resources for support for a range of PH issues, also for building resilience and prevention of PH-related problems (e.g., targeting prevention or treatment for substance abuse, suicide prevention, sexual assault or family violence), including the services of the USNR Reserve Psychological Health Outreach Program
  • Support deployment cycle and other command activities for reservists and their families including providing screening, briefings and education/training (e.g. Pre-deployment and Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Events, other government, and or community events, etc.)
  • Provide outreach (face-to-face, phone, email, text, mail) to all Reservists identified by the Unit Commanding Officers as having returned from deployment within the past six months to determine whether they require additional assessment for any possible psychological health issues.
  • Provide psychological support and assessment of Reservists and their family members who experience psychological trauma as a result of a natural disaster (such as Hurricanes), terrorist attack or other crisis/emergency (e.g. command request for support or assistance with Combat Operational Stress First Aid (COSFA) after suicides, or other deaths in unit).
  • Support PH-related conferences, symposia, meetings and trainings, as approved by the COR, including providing information on the PHOP and assisting with presentations or exhibits to increase awareness of the program and its capabilities, information on the program, PH, prevention, resilience, and positive psychology issues. Attend other meetings to support the PHOP to support reservists and their families PH/resilience.
  • Other duties that may apply specific to emerging interests of BUMED and the psychological health outreach program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Outreach Team members shall meet the following qualifications:

  • Must be a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor or a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. New grads welcome - yet must be fully licensed to operate independently, in any State.
  • Must be a United States of America citizen.
  • Must have ability to work within Microsoft Office Suite with minimal supervision/assistance, particularly in use of Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to market and promote the program with BUMED approved materials.
  • Ability to provide consultation and serve as subject matter expert on topics of psychological health, as it relates to Service Members and their Families
  • Ability to work on special projects related to the contract as required by BUMED or Serco.
  • Must have ability to travel on weekends.
  • Must have driver’s license.
  • Military experience of some sort would be preferred, yet it is not a deal breaker.

HOURS OF WORK

This position is 100% administrative and involves no treatment, just intake and/or biopsychosocial assessment and case management for Active Duty Soldiers and Reservists members, identifying community, local, and military (where available) resources to support their physical and emotional needs, behavioral support.

  • Position requires travel, up to two (2) weekends a month, throughout the Region with ability to flex time on weekdays for work completed on the weekends. NOTE: Travel is limited due to COVID.
