Civil Engineering Project Engineer-San Mateo
Well established, 80-year-old civil engineering and surveying firm with offices in San Mateo and Chico, California is seeking an experienced civil engineering graduate for the position of Project Engineer.
Our firm provides a full array of land development and public works design services including: street and pavement design; water, sewer and storm drain hydraulic modeling and infrastructure design; retaining wall and small structure design. The position of project engineer spans a range of experience and several job classifications. We are looking for applicants with 3 to 7+ years of experience. The job titles in this range of experience are typically classified as Engineer I, Engineer II, or Engineer III as described below.

Duties of the position include performing assignments under general supervision with progressively increasing design and plan preparation responsibility. Candidates must be college graduates with at least three years of experience and general knowledge of Civil Engineering, acquaintance with related fields, and California EIT registration.

Duties of the position include performing assignments under general supervision on more complex designs with detailed plan preparation responsibility. Work requires independent study, use of responsible judgement and an ability to delegate less complex design and drafting tasks to technicians and junior staff. Candidates must be college graduates with five or more years of experience and general knowledge of Civil Engineering, acquaintance with related fields, and California PE registration or EIT with eligibility to take exam.

The ideal candidate for Engineer II can take direction and work more independently, can identify design issues, and can solve problems by providing solutions.
This position is available in the San Mateo office and has hybrid work-from-home eligibility allowing work time to be split between the office and home upon manager approval.
The position requires a well-organized and versatile individual with excellent writing and verbal communication skills who is experienced in civil engineering design with some experience in project management. You will work under the general direction of a Project Manager or Supervising Engineer to develop your skills as a project manager.
