The Production Supervisor (Defense and Sensors) will be responsible for the development and implementation of activities in production areas to meet production goals, quality and cost objectives. Prioritizes production schedules based on product introduction, equipment efficiency and materials supply. Plans and administers procedures and budgets. This job will make budgetary recommendations on capital expenditures and direct/indirect labor. Selects and develops personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the production function and develops schedules and manpower requirements for assigned areas. Teledyne may, at its discretion modify or add further duties not currently listed in the general job description. Assignments tend to be of moderate complexity, diversification or expense. Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and process to meet goals outlined. Normally receives instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new projects or assignments

Detailed Description:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Ensures the meeting of production goals within budget and a high level of quality.
  • Analyzes production specifications and capacity data and performs mathematical calculations to determine manufacturing processes, tools and human resource requirements.
  • Determines work schedules and overtime, allocation of resources and which machines will run and resolves problems as they occur.
  • Looks for new ways to improve the efficiency of production lines.
  • Confers with department personnel to determine status of assigned projects.
  • Prepares production reports.
  • Works with purchasing to improve the quality of materials from suppliers.
  • Daily availability to include evenings and weekends when necessary to reach goals and deadlines.
  • Provides technical and administrative leadership, direction, and support to those performing production, repairs and testing/evaluation.
  • Evaluates job requirements, specifications, operational procedures, equipment, parts and materials, personnel, and workflow requirements in order to ensure job requirements are met.
  • Makes staff level recommendations.
  • Prepares work schedules and assignments of work.
  • Ensures personnel are adequately trained and possess necessary skills to perform work assigned. Conducts training of personnel.
  • Works with Supply Chain personnel to ensure parts/materials are available on time for production requirements.
  • Ensures all necessary documentation/instructions are provided to personnel performing work.
  • Ensures equipment, tools, and facilities are satisfactory to perform required work.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems and assists personnel in solving problems.
  • Monitors the work being performed to ensure proper procedures, methods, tools, equipment, and materials are being used.
  • Ensure work meets both customer and Teledyne requirements and/or standards.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods and efficiencies, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Recommends changes to work environment.
  • Maintains time and production records.
  • Sets up machines and equipment.
  • Tests malfunctioning machinery and equipment and performs repairs and/or seeks qualified repair personnel.
  • Defines daily housekeeping requirements.
  • Ensures that department employees are aware of and adhere to EHS requirements.
  • Demonstrates and recommends the use of personal protective equipment (i.e. safety glasses, latex gloves, etc.)
  • Ensures all chemicals and/or hazardous materials are properly labeled, handled, used, stored, and disposed of.
  • Ensures job travelers and records are completed properly and are maintained as required.
  • Performs other duties, sometimes in different areas, as required.
  • Handles performance management matters associated with subordinate employees.
  • Prepares and maintains KPI’s.
  • Ensures that proper labor amounts are allocated to the proper shop orders. Reviews this information daily to ensure accuracy.
  • Reviews shop orders to ensure the correct materials are allocated to the correct shop orders.
  • Follows all import/export requirements, consulting with facility import/export personnel as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

This job provides general supervision to a functional area which may include supervision of exempt and non-exempt personnel. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include providing leadership to employees, interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in a related field and 0-2 years of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze and interpret various business documents, technical procedures and government regulations. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and response to questions before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a general knowledge of Microsoft Office and ERP/MRP Software.
Other Skills and Abilities
  • Basic Knowledge of ISO 9001.
  • Extensive knowledge of reading/interpreting mechanical drawings, sketches, and technical documentation/information packages.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Skilled at tool/equipment selection, order of production operations for efficiency, KPI’s, etc.
  • Experience working in a high-volume production environment.
  • Proven knowledge and skills of safety/environmental measures associated with production operations.
  • Ability/willingness to develop/coach/train department personnel.
  • Good working knowledge of electromechanical inspection methods and tools/equipment.
  • Experience with the planning and manufacturing modules of ERP systems. IFS experience is a plus.
  • Good communication skills to communicate professionally with shop personnel, management, and customers.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work effectively and efficiently with limited supervision.
  • Computer competencies in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ERP and other software programs as needed.
Other Qualifications
  • U.S. Person for access to ITAR-Controlled Technical Data.
