Summary of Position
The Health Department’s Public Health Bureau has an opening for a 40 hours per week Physical Therapist-Physically Handicapped Children (PT-PHC) in the California Children’s Services (CCS) Medical Therapy Program. The PT-PHC delivers a full range of physical therapy services including evaluation, planning, and providing PT treatment to children with physical disabilities. The PT-PHC records and prepares reports on patient’s treatment and progress. The PT-PHC works collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, occupational and speech therapists, social workers, nutritionists, school personnel, and outside agencies to meet the therapy needs of the children served by the CCS Medical Therapy Program (MTP). The mission of the CCS MTP is to maximize the quality of life for special needs children through the provision of Physical and Occupational Therapy services including ongoing assessment, treatment and consultation to the child, family, and community.

EXAMPLES OF EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/TRAINING:
The knowledge, skills and abilities listed above may be acquired through various types of experience, education, or training, typically:
EDUCATION:

Successful completion of course work and graduation from an accredited school of Physical Therapy approved by the Board of the American Physical Therapy Association.
And
EXPERIENCE:
-
Two years of experience as a licensed physical therapist providing therapy to physically handicapped child
Conditions of Employment:
-
Possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license.

Possess and maintain a valid license to practice physical therapy issued by the Physical Therapy Board of California.

Due to the sensitive nature of these positions, the Health Department reserves the right to fingerprint and conduct police background checks of appointees for some positions.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
New graduates with clinical experience in pediatrics are encouraged to apply.
