We have an opening for Operations Manager! This position has the responsibility to lead and develop a defined group of Manufacturing Process Leaders and associated team members primarily on our first shift. Staff count and shift will vary depending on the assigned departments.

The Operations Manager accomplishes production goals by communicating job expectations; adjusting staffing levels, planning, monitoring, and utilizing our OnTRAC performance management system; hiring, coaching, counseling and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating and enforcing systems, policies and procedures.

The Operations Manager has the responsibility for meeting production objectives; including, but not limited to: safety, takt adherence, productivity, quality and continuous improvement.

The focus of this position is utilizing and developing the skills and talents of Manufacturing Process Leaders and team members to provide world class customer order fulfillment. Success in this leadership role is demonstrated through an accident free working environment, meeting promise deliveries to customers, a motivated production team, progressive lean initiatives and achieving challenging production goals.

The Operations Manager must be skilled in team development, leading and developing leaders, workplace organization, problem solving and an efficient and empathic communicator.

How You Contribute:

  • Ensure safety guidelines are followed and promote the use of safe practices. Participate in safety committee meetings and audits, and act quickly to any non-conformances.
  • Develop and manage cross-training with Manufacturing Process Leaders and team members to become proficient with all products and processes.
  • Lead Manufacturing Process Leader meetings to communicate daily goals, and develop actions to reach goals. Participate in individual process area meetings to confirm and/or direct a consistent and challenging message to team members.
  • Encourage and support Manufacturing Process Leaders and team members with the implementation of continuous improvement ideas and kaizen events. Participate and/or direct kaizen events.
  • Ensure team utilization/adherence of Standard Work and Quality Standards. Confirm and correct exceptions utilizing the PDCA methodology.
  • Work to implement and improve the accuracy of production documentation; e.g. BOM, routing data, work instructions, quality criteria, playbooks, etc…
  • Work with and provide direction to Manufacturing Process Leaders and team members to adjust manpower to match the rate of customer demand with consistent communication and engagement with other members of leadership.
  • Provide input to Operations Manager regarding production goals, Manufacturing Process Leader performance, and strategic planning.
  • Actively direct and audit daily housekeeping, workplace organization (5S) and equipment maintenance to ensure minimal machine/tool downtime and the production area is in tour ready condition at all times.

Criteria for Success:

A two or four year degree in business or technology, or equivalent experience plus three-five years leading teams in a production environment is an advantage for the candidate. Training in and demonstrated use of lean and problem solving tools (PDCA, 8D etc…) is also an advantage for this position as well as a solid understanding of light assembly, welding and powder coat processes.

This person must possess a high level of written and verbal communication with a variety of audiences. Must have the ability to give clear instruction and engage Team Members in projects, customer orders, materials and other fabrication needs.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

The environment is mostly on the shop floor in a noisy and sometimes hot environment. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to stand, sit or walk up to 5 hours. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the principal accountabilities.
