Job Description :

The Operations Manager manages the Dorr Oil and Propane overall daily operations. Duties include ensuring employees follow all federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to the storage, delivery, and usage of all products that company supplies. The Operations Manager is instrumental in ensuring the plant operates within budget guidelines and provides other services as requested by management.


This position will support our Dorr Oil and Propane location in Manchester Center, VT.


Duties/Responsibilities:

Personnel Management:

  • Recruits, hires, and trains employees based on criteria agreed upon by senior management
  • Duties will include, managing tasks, staff meetings, development programs and management reports
  • Develop and manage staff at plant (field staff and office staff)
  • Coordinates with administration the compliance of office staff with established company policies and standards, such as safekeeping of company funds and property, personnel practices, security, sales and record-keeping procedures
  • Demonstrates ability to interact and cooperate with all company employees
  • Adheres to all company policies, procedures and business ethic codes and ensures that they are communicated and implemented within the team
  • All other related duties as assigned by Plant Manager


Plant Performance:

  • Provides feedback to senior management regarding plant performance
  • Provides timely and accurate informative competitor information
  • Responsible for identifying, managing, and increasing local sales and business development
  • Maintain adequate systems knowledge and provide support for plant related to all systems.
  • Responsible for inventory management
  • Must meet budget revenue guidelines and control expenses to meet budget requirements
  • Evaluate Daily, Weekly, and Monthly plant reporting as required by senior management
  • Ensure that daily, weekly, monthly functions to be performed at each plant are performed as required
  • Assist staff in collection efforts and must closely monitor top accounts
  • Responsible for the coordination of fleet maintenance, safety records, DOT files/records with Stone Road Energy Fleet Management and Compliance
  • Schedule and dispatch all drivers and service technicians
  • Coordinate and implement all safety initiatives as directed by Stone Road Energy Compliance
  • All other related duties as assigned by Plant Manager


Budget/Marketing Administration:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of marketing plans as needed
  • Controls expenses to meet budget guidelines
  • Required involvement in local organizations (i.e. local chamber of commerce, local builders associations, realty groups, etc.)
  • All other related duties as assigned by Plant Manager


Customer Service:

  • Resolves customer problems by clarifying customer complaints; determining the cause of the problem; selecting and explaining the best solution to solve the problem; expediting correction or adjustment; following up to ensure resolution
  • All other related duties as assigned by Plant Manager

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proven leadership and ability to drive area sales
  • Must be able to coach and motivate a team
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills
  • Good listening skills
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Service oriented
  • Ability to attain necessary certifications to ensure plant success


Education, Certification, Licenses Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED (required); an Undergraduate Degree from an accredited college or university in business management, marketing, or a related field (highly preferred); two (2) years progressively responsible experience in the propane and/ or fuel distribution business highly preferred; three (3) to two (2) years of customer service and/or office management leadership experience (required), including minimum two (2) years supervisory experience required; or a combination of experience and education that results in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is required

  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record


Physical, Mental, Behavioral Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch
  • Regularly and safely lifts, carries, and handles supplies and equipment weighing between 20-80 pounds
  • Must pass pre-employment screening and background check
  • Position may require working evening hours and weekends as needed
  • Work is normally performed outside where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, fumes and gases and airborne particles is common
