Alter Enterprise is of the area’s top Managed Technology Services Firms and we’re looking for our next Network Engineer. We are seeking a motivated person with awesome people skills, strong communication abilities and, most importantly, well developed technical skill to join our team.
You’ll work from our comfortable offices located in Missoula, MT supporting our client’s technology systems such as desktops, laptops and mobile devices via phones and email. You’ll also work onsite at our client’s offices and facilities. This position requires the candidate to identify user problems promptly, develop solutions and always maintain our high level of customer satisfaction. You will be in one of the primary positions for our team so you must be a self-starter as well as a great problem solver.
Network Engineers are responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring and managing the local and wide area networks of an organization to ensure maximum uptime for users. The role can include designing system configurations, documenting and managing the installation of a new network, and maintaining and upgrading existing systems as necessary.
Network engineer requirements include essential skills in the design, planning, implementation and monitoring a computer network that supports wireless network services, video, data, and voice. This is a high-level profession. There are a lot of different types of networks that someone in this role can work with. Some examples include VoIP, which is Voice Over Internet Protocol Network, WLAN, and LAN.
Engineers provide support for system installation and define, document, and put into effect system standards. They secure network systems by setting up and applying policies, and define and oversees access.
Essential Duties include:
Working in-house or be assigned to project management teams working with outside clients
Designing and implementing new network solutions and/or improving the efficiency of current networks
Installing, configuring and supporting network equipment including routers, proxy servers, switches, WAN accelerators, DNS and DHCP
Procuring network equipment and managing subcontractors involved with network installation
Configuring firewalls, routing and switching to maximize network efficiency and security
·Maximizing network performance through ongoing monitoring and troubleshooting
Arranging scheduled upgrades
Investigating faults in the network
Updating network equipment to the latest firmware releases
Reporting network status to key stakeholders
Requirements & Education Qualifications
Network Engineer Requirements include having a bachelor’ degree in the field of computer science or something that is related to technology.
They should have a solid understanding of the network infrastructure and hardware.
The person must have a good understanding of hardware and network infrastructure. A CCNA certification is preferred.
Engineers should be able to think through problems and provide solutions for them. They need to learn quickly about new technology and product related things.
They should have had experience in network security, LAN, and WAN. Engineers must be able to work with all levels of staff within and outside of IT.
Engineers should have solid analytical and problem-solving skills. They should also have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
As well as formal qualifications, a Network Engineer job description should include the following qualities:
