Position Overview:

Responsible for efficiently collecting and documenting patient samples. This position also is responsible for representing the laboratory in a professional manner while adhering to strict HIPAA guidelines

Essential Job Functions:

  • Arrange daily activities based on urgency of ordered labs and stability for collected samples.
  • Access/review’s the customer’s EMR or lab ordering portal to confirm what labs have been ordered for collection date (recurring or STAT labs) and liaison’s with the facility team members for any questions on lab orders/status.
  • Verifies lab orders have been signed off on by provider’s, prior to collection.
  • Prepares for patient collection using approved collection devices, PPE and other collection support items.
  • Identify patients, prior to collecting, using their ID, documents, or other means, such as confirming patient identification with facility staff.
  • Determine the proper specimen collection steps needed (i.e., right venipuncture method based on patient age, health etc.)
  • Reassure patients and help them relax.
  • Draw blood/bodily fluids/etc. using sterilized and approved equipment.
  • Ensure optimal quality and quantity of samples, per lab test, as required by the lab.
  • Guidelines will be provided by the lab, per lab test.
  • Records required patient data accurately on the requisition forms/electronic lab orders, including patient demographic, payment and diagnostic reasons for testing.
  • Completes all required documentation for samples to be processed at the lab (i.e., test requisition forms (paper and/or electronic), admission records/face sheets, patient consents, etc.).
  • Documents patient encounters to record any ‘refusals’ or patient’s who’s labs could not be completed while onsite (i.e., patient had left the building, patient was in isolation, etc.).
  • Communicates encounter issues to facility staff and SinguLab customer support team for audit purposes.
  • Accurately labels patient specimen and efficiently packs the specimen for transport, shipping or courier service.
  • Informs courier service and lab of samples that need to be picked up immediately or drop off all specimen samples to the laboratory physical location.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of collection area, self and supplies.
  • Ensures a minimum of 10 (10) collection kits/media or collection equipment on hand, per customer site, for all specimen collection types.
  • Notifies support team/management when additional supplies are needed.
  • Communicates with direct management regarding staffing/customer related concerns.
  • Always keeps phone on, while onsite/on schedule/on call, so the support team or managers can get in contact with collector in a timely manner.
  • Communicates with support team or manager in a timely manner if collector will not be at scheduled customer site on time and provide ETA for customer communication.
  • Checks email or other company communication methods daily to ensure no missed communications, including invitations to team meetings and other required communications/activities.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality in dealing with patient information following strict HIPAA guidelines.
  • Maintains professionalism while interacting with clinic staff, patients and physicians.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Must have valid driver’s license and reliable/consistent transportation.
  • Ability to travel, consistently up to two (2) hours from home to assigned customer site(s).
  • Certified and/or professionally trained and experienced phlebotomist.
  • To perform collections in California, Louisiana, Nevada, and Washington, must carry active certification(s) per state.
  • Completed phlebotomy training course(s) and can provide documentation of completed training/certification.
  • At least one year phlebotomy/specimen collections experience, with references to experience.
  • To meet CMS COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements for working in acute/long-term care:
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination with proof via vaccination card.
  • Has met or scheduled to complete required COVID-19 vaccination booster’s with proof via vaccination card.
  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • Knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook
  • Familiarity with laboratory procedures, HIPAA guidelines (i.e., requisition forms, etc.)
  • The ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced office environment
  • Must have a detail orientation, the proven ability to prioritize work and multi-task.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
