WHAT YOU’LL DO

If you are the person who wins the terrific opportunity to join Smithville as our Marketing Communications Specialist, you will report directly to the Creative Manager. You will generate ideas and approaches to respond to creative briefs, collaborate with marketing and sales representatives to understand products and internal and external communication needs, and gather/analyze information to understand consumer needs and competitive response. Additionally, you will draft and propose communication campaigns, create and execute a 12-month multi-channel content calendar, and create multi-channel campaigns. In your remaining time, you will schedule and develop filming scripts and production, evaluate the success of campaigns, present design ideas and recommendations, and complete other duties as assigned.

In this role, you will make medium-high impact decisions to be reviewed by the Creative Services Manager, the Marketing Strategist, and/or the Vice President of Marketing. These decisions include what creative messaging will best reach the target consumer, when and how to test messages and incrementally improve them, when messages are released to consumers, and in what sequence.

Responsibilities

  • Generating ideas and approaches to respond to creative briefs created by marketing strategists and product owners (20%)
  • Collaborating with marketing and sales representatives to fully understand product and communication needs (10%)
  • Gathering information to understand consumer needs and competitive response, such as collateral materials, previous marketing campaigns, and websites; analyzing these materials to determine the most effective communications technique to educate and persuade consumers (10%)
  • Drafting and proposing communications campaigns based on assessment, which may include social and online media, email, print media, direct mail, and other multimedia (10%)
  • Creating and executing a 12-month multi-channel content calendar (10%)
  • Creating and coordinating multi-channel campaigns (10%)
  • Developing Video scripts and assisting with production scheduling (10%)
  • Evaluating the success of campaigns when completed and iterating creative based on consumer response (10%)
  • Presenting design ideas and recommendations to the marketing manager, committee, or other stakeholders (5%)
  • Performing other duties as assigned (5%)

Typical Working Conditions

  • Work is almost always completed indoors in a quiet/low noise, climate-controlled office environment (office, meeting room, or similar). Typical work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm; may work overtime, evenings, and/or weekends as needed to meet critical deadlines or respond to problems
  • Occasional driving necessary for traveling to industry events and company functions

Physical Demands

  • Often use of fine motor skills, sitting, walking, standing, talking, hearing, and close, distance, color, and depth vision
  • Sometimes bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, reaching below and above shoulder level, pulling, and lifting up to 30 pounds

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Journalism, Advertising, Communications, or a related field
  • Minimum one year of experience in a related role
  • Computer proficiency; experience with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills that may include public speaking and presentations
  • Ability to persuade and inspire
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Capacity and desire to distill complex ideas to their simplest forms
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record
  • Ability to detect color is required
  • Expected to learn on the job within 3-6 months – Smithville products and services, and knowledge of the telecommunications industry
