Purpose of the Role

The Specialist Technical Onsite will support the Midwest IT needs for both surface and underground mining. The overall vision, standardization, and alignment with the business are key areas for this position. This position is a direct report of and will work closely with the Manager, IT Mine Support & OT Security - US to better coordinate operational and service needs of the mines. This position plays a key role in ensuring the delivery of quality services to virtually all Corporate and Operating companies’ management teams. This position will also be required to assist with support issues at all US mine locations, occasionally including travel.

Key Role Accountabilities

  • Implementation and support of enterprise IT systems including hardware and software upgrades, design changes, and infrastructure improvements as planned and developed by corporate IT teams.
  • Work closely with operational management for outage and planned maintenance
  • Serve as the subject matter consultant for the global IT and OT support teams
  • Adhere to SLAs as required for mining production

Role Requirements

Qualifications

  • Perform hardware and software break/fix activities on a variety of computing platforms
  • Manage PC, phone (IP and mobile), IP camera, printer, and peripheral inventory
  • Installation of premise hardware, including but not limited to, structured cabling (Cat5/6, fiber optic, or RF), patch panels, UPS, PDU, server cabinets, and NEMA enclosures
  • Knowledge of PC imaging methods using SCCM as a deployment tool
  • Experience with virtual meeting platforms (Microsoft Teams and Zoom)
  • Ability to quickly diagnose, organize, and triage service requests
  • Self-motivated and the ability to execute tasks autonomously or in a team setting
  • Proactively monitor email, management system alerts, and customer ticketing system notifications
  • Knowledge of server technology including support of VM systems as well as physical boxes is considered a plus
  • Knowledge of server Active Directory
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with other team members, departments, and vendors
  • Exceptional organizational skills, ability to meet deadlines, thrive in a fast-paced industry and mining atmosphere and possess advanced problem-solving capability
  • Flexibility to travel with overnight stays

Experience

  • Associate degree in Information Technology or a related field
  • A minimum of two years of relevant work experience
  • CompTIA A+ | Network+ | Security+ certifications preferred
  • Must maintain a valid, current driver's license
  • Experience in a mining or manufacturing environment is a plus
  • Ability to operate articulated boom and scissor lifts
  • Fusion splicing and fiber OTDR testing is a plus

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Must have the ability to perform office-related tasks which may include prolonged sitting or standing
  • Must have the ability to move from place to place within an office environment
  • Must be able to use a computer
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively
  • Some positions may require occasional repetitive motion or movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Physical Requirements, Underground Occupations:
  • Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time on uneven, rocky surfaces
  • Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
  • Must have the ability to walk for up to 4 hours at a time. Will be required to walk through different sections of the mine with varying degrees of clearance and headroom
  • Walking ability will be judged according to SCSR emergency evacuation plan required and approved by MSHA
  • Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
  • Must have the ability to bend or stoop for a full work period as a result of mine height
  • Must have the ability to climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on and off equipment and ladders
  • Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms and legs as well as good hand to eye coordination
  • Must have the ability to lift 25 to 50 pounds on a frequent basis and the ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to 75 pounds
  • Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area

This is a Safety Sensitive Role:

Individuals in safety sensitive roles (i.e., role where impaired performance could credibly result in fatality or permanently disabling injury), cannot have:

  • an uncontrolled condition which is likely to cause loss of consciousness or ability to control a motor vehicle or other large machinery;

  • impaired hearing (with or without hearing aids) that would prevent the person from hearing crucial safety information or alarms; impaired vision.
  • Individuals must meet the minimum vison requirements of at least 20/40 acuity (Snellen) with or without correction and at least 70° field of vision in horizontal meridian measured.
