Job Description :

The Office of Communications is seeking a collaborative, creative and highly self-motivated professional to conceptualize, design and produce visual components for Northwest’s college-wide communications and marketing materials.

QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor’s degree in graphic design, art or a related field is required. Previous experience working in the educational environment a plus.

REPORTS TO: Associate Vice President of Community Relations

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 month

HOURS: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Some evening work to cover after-hours events as needed.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Comprehensive knowledge of Macintosh operating system and use of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat and other Creative Cloud applications as needed), technical knowledge of scanning, printing, other computer hardware, etc. Experience with HTML, WordPress (and/or other web design applications), web graphics and motion graphics a plus. Knowledge of Quark Xpress a plus.

Must be detail-oriented, able to follow direction and work independently, and have strong layout and design skills. Candidate must be able to handle multiple assignments simultaneously, meet aggressive deadlines, and work collaboratively with a variety of departments.

Knowledge of the principles of artistic design, the use of color, and typography in designing for both print and digital media. Knowledge of the current techniques and materials involved in various reproduction processes. Ability to prepare materials for reproduction, and communicate clearly with printers and production vendors.

Must be highly creative, with strong artistic skills and ability to take a project from concept through the design process to the final product. Must be able to design a wide variety of projects across print and digital media.

Must possess excellent verbal and written communications skills as well as time management and organizational skills.

Experience in photography and the use of photographic equipment including DSLR cameras and lenses, flash equipment, backgrounds and lighting a plus. Basic videography experience a plus.

Experience in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint a plus.

Must be able to work collaboratively with other communications staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and design all forms of printed institutional materials (including brochures, viewbooks, flyers, guides, advertisements, posters, etc.), consulting with originating departments in order to produce camera-ready copy and digital files for printing.

Assist in the coverage of college events, including photography and/or social media, as needed.

Lead the development of the Yearbook with concepts and design for cover, pages and layout.

Develop and design other institutional materials, such as banners, logos, special graphics, etc. as requested by various departments.

Assist with development and design of graphics for the college’s website and social media channels.

Prepare art materials, freehand or mechanically, for various art layouts.

Communicate with campus clients needing marketing materials (digital and print)

Estimate production time for publications, as necessary; deal with outside vendors on specifications and pricing quotes, as required.

Assist other Communications Office staff, including Sports Information staff, to fulfill clients’ marketing needs across platforms.

Other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President of Community Relations.
