Job Description :

KDS Windsor is seeking a skilled Field Service Engineer (FSE) to join our growing organization in Hendersonville, NC. In this position, you will be responsible for the proper equipment startup and training of client personnel on our line of large-scale kiln lumber drying systems. The FSE will manage the implementation of our equipment utilizing best practices and technologies to optimize kiln performance, safe operation, production efficiency & quality, and cost effectiveness to meet company objectives and client requirements. The FSE will install various proprietary systems as well as provide process/project engineering support. Additionally, the FSE will service existing kilns to maintain optimal drying performance.

Essential Functions

  • Drives continuous product improvement
  • Process and product expert
  • Responsible for the design, specification, costing, project management, procurement, installation, and commissioning of projects
  • Develops and implements new processes, improves safety, improves quality, reduces costs, and improves product performance
  • Communicates with clients and team members to define the functional and safety requirements for each project
  • Ensures the completed project meets the needs of the client
  • Provides engineering support and technical guidance to clients and team members
  • Troubleshoots issues by phone and in-person as needed
  • Evaluates suppliers and contractors for the procurement of equipment, services, and labor to complete projects on time, on budget and to acceptable quality standards
  • Commissions projects to meet contracted goals
  • Trains clients and staff in safe operation of equipment
  • Writes operations manuals
  • Maintains and distributes documentation to both staff and clients as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings
  • Must be able to demonstrate technical, electrical, and mechanical aptitude
  • Must understand electrical control devices, motor controls and mechanisms
  • Must be able to effectively diagnose and solve problems
  • Must be proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Must be proficient using hand tools: drills, wrenches, and saws
  • Able to use devices such as multi-meters, meg-ohm meters and ammeters
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills

Desired Skills

  • Familiarity with industrial automation and PLC’s
  • Familiarity with industrial heat plant operation and maintenance
  • Understanding of Sawmill operations and procedures
  • Understanding of wet/dry bulb temperatures
  • Familiarity with green sawdust gasification systems and suspension burners

Required Education & Experience

  • Associates of Science from an accredited institution in an Engineering or Technology discipline such as: Mechanical, Electro-Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
  • Five years manufacturing, industrial or field service work experience
  • Ability to travel 50% or more
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record for at least five years
  • US work authorization
  • Physically fit with the ability to work in hot environments
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science from an accredited institution in an Engineering or Technology discipline such as: Mechanical, Electro-Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
  • Manufacturing/industrial/field service or related work: 10 years
  • Ability to travel 100%
