This position is responsible for ground and unmanned aerial surveying, volume calculations, machine control installation and maintenance and other duties at the mine site.
Job Description:

Essential Duties:
Calculate volumes moved by draglines, dozers, and loading shovels. Stake and survey drill holes and piezometer locations. Calculate pit inventory, tons severed and royalty quantities on a monthly basis. Establish control and targets for aerial surveys. Pilot UAV (drone) to collect photogrammetric data and process data to produce topographic maps, calculate quantities, and produce aerial photos. Perform CAD applications such as volume computations, haul road/ramp design, and 3-D modeling. Manage data in spreadsheets as required. Install, maintain and calibrate surveying and machine control equipment.
Other duties:
Complete reserve quantity and quality comparisons versus projected mine plan. Assist Staff Engineer in managing contracts for both land surveying and construction projects. Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to operate surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS, and levels. Knowledge and understanding of machine control equipment including operation, installation and routine maintenance. Ability to set up and operate an UAV (drone) and collect necessary data. Advanced software skills including spreadsheet applications; Carlson Civil/Mining Suite, AutoCAD, Office 365, etc. Knowledge and ability to use mathematics in calculation of field data and calculation of volumes. Working knowledge of surveying practices in an industrial construction environment. Good verbal and written communications skills. Good interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently for extended periods of time- some flexibility in work schedule could be required.
Education and Training:
A minimum of two years of post secondary education in Civil Engineering Technology or a related discipline and/or appropriate surveying and computer experience. A minimum of two years of experience in office and field survey practices is desired. A FAA Part 107 drone license is preferred but not required.
