Job Description :

Interested in working in a niche and specialized area dealing with helping sellers of virtually any type of appreciated asset defer the capital gains on those sales?

Reef Point, LLC serving as Independent Trustee for the Estate Planning Team, is seeking a professional in the area of Tax or law to assist and learn to become a Trustee within our firm in order to help manage explosive growth in our business model.

Typical Trustee responsibilities include:

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities.
  • Relationship building.
  • Evaluate existing partnerships and sales efforts with an eye toward building on what works and changing what doesn't.
  • Responsible for increasing company revenue by identifying and developing new business opportunities as well as expanding brand presence.
  • Engaging in preliminary consultations with sellers and/or other professional advisors interested in learning more about deferring taxes on the sale of their asset.
  • Coordinating secondary calls for qualified prospects with our tax attorneys.
  • Managing and overseeing many of the tasks and action items associated with the set up of the legal structure during the ‘escrow’ period.
  • Coordinating with approved and trained licensed investment advisors with respect to the reinvestment of sales proceeds appropriate to meeting the seller’s objectives.
  • Conduct quarterly reviews with sellers who are now clients and the licensed investment advisor for the trust.
  • Maintain compliance related reporting.
  • Adept at negotiating sound business deals as well as demonstrate excellent communication and leadership.

The Trustee is also largely responsible for generating new leads and opportunities and developing key relationships and partnerships (or teams) with other professionals who have clients who would benefit from our unique strategy. You should be persuasive and have strong business acumen.

Basic Requirements:

  • Must have at least 3 to 5 years experience in a professional capacity. Ideally, your core discipline is that of an enrolled agent or CPA, a licensed attorney, corporate trustee/fiduciary, investment advisory, commercial real estate, M & A professional or a business broker. You should possess one of these competencies and we will train on the others.
  • To work in this role you will have to be able to learn and integrate knowledge of real estate transactions, business sale transactions, lending and finance, parameters of income and capital gains taxes, general knowledge of investments and investment strategies, understanding of formal corporate entity structures, and estate planning.
  • Problem solving, time management skills, and the ability to delegate.
  • One of your core competencies is sales and you are a closer.
  • You are disciplined, organized and possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • You possess the ability to explain concepts in a clear and informative manner and you present with a highly professional and credible demeanor.

Nature of the strategy:

The trademark term for our strategy is the Deferred Sales Trust ™ , or DST (not to be confused with a Delaware Statutory Trust with the same acronym). This is a highly specialized legal, proved and IRS tested strategy. We have a perfect 25 year track record with the IRS and have completed well over 400 transactions totaling over $200B in successful sale transactions. Due to the specialization involved and the necessity to have undergone in-depth scrutiny with the IRS and others, there are currently no other firms in the country successfully trying to replicate our model. For this reason, the DST is still relatively unknown, as compared to say 1031 exchanges.

If you are interested in assisting clients who are seeking an alternative to a 1031 exchange, looking to sell their business, or exit from investments in real estate, consider joining our team to learn about and utilize the benefits of a Deferred Sales Trust (DST.)
