Job Title: Corporate Controller

Job Overview:

The Corporate Controller establishes and communicates financial and strategic goals for the company and legal, regulatory, and securities reporting requirements. They will manage all aspects of financial planning, accounting, reporting, and third-party financial relationships. They will also provide expertise and coordinate cross-functional cooperation. This position reports to the Executive VP, located at Unigen HQ, Newark.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

1. Establish and communicate financial and strategic goals for the company, and financial and investing strategies to meet specific business objectives, and legal, regulatory, and securities reporting requirements

  • Develop short- and long-term financial planning, provide strategic recommendations
  • Develop and maintain capital and operational budgets
  • Assess organizational and financial performance against budget and strategies
  • Develop and execute financial analysis of various business initiatives

2. Manage all aspects of financial planning and reporting, including the controller function, accounting, treasury, and tax on a global basis to ensure compliance with financial reporting standards, shareholder requirements, and regulatory requirements

  • Manage month-end close activities, review US and consolidation base account reconciliation, trial balance, and financial reports to ensure the accuracy of Unigen’s financial book
  • Review and manage fixed asset-related transactions to ensure correct accounting treatment
  • Manage Unigen’s annual audit
  • Oversee accounts receivable/accounts payable invoicing, collection, and payment activities to make sure the company receives customer payments on time and pays vendors according to company policy
  • Monitor the company’s cash flow and bank borrowing base daily
  • Perform cash flow forecast as needed
  • Coordinate and validate annual operating plan (AOP) and quarterly forecasting
  • Provide financial projection and modeling

3. Manage the functions of financial planning and accounting

  • Lead and manage all activities in accounting, finance, forecasting, strategic planning, control systems, and risk management (oversee/manage accounting close and preparation of month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial reports)
  • Enhance and implement financial and accounting systems, processes, tools and control systems
  • Ensure successful preparation and support of all external financial audits
  • Oversee diligent working capital management in cash, accounts payables, accounts receivables and inventory

4. Manage third party financial relationships

  • Conduct financial review of contracts
  • Coordinate and support contract negotiations
  • Establish and manage relationships with banks, external auditors, tax consultants, attorneys, insurance brokers, and any other professional service providers
  • Review existing and new customer’s credit
  • Manage external auditors
  • Manage bank reporting and audit requirements under credit facility
  • Review bank covenant monthly
  • Manage various external reporting to ensure Unigen is in compliance with regulations, including sales and use tax report; 571-L property tax report; annual R&D tax report; transfer pricing tax study, royalty and other requirements

5. Provide expertise and drive and coordinate cross-functional cooperation

  • Provide financial expertise
  • Guide cross-functional collaboration and teamwork
  • Communicate, coordinate, and troubleshoot with the internal team members to resolve accounting issues
  • Delegate, assign transaction-related tasks and control cross-functional adherence to the established accounting procedures and instructions
  • Provide support and training to new or existing cross-functional team members in the company’s cost accounting procedures as needed

Other duties and responsibilities related to Finance & Accounting as assigned

Job Qualifications and Requirements

  • BS/BA, in Accounting or Finance, is required. MBA preferred
  • CPA desirable
  • 3+ years of experience as a Corporate Controller or equivalent role
  • 5+ years of progressive responsibility in financial leadership positions in Manufacturing Finance, Operations Finance, or product costing finance
  • Expert knowledge and extensive work experience in financial accounting, cost accounting, and management reporting
  • Experience in strategic planning and mergers and acquisitions
  • Advanced financial modeling, database, and spreadsheet skills
  • Advanced knowledge of business analytics, financial analysis, reporting, and presentations
  • Advanced product pricing, revenue and cost analysis, modeling, and inventory valuation skills
  • Hands-on experience managing AOP, quarterly forecasting, and key operational and financial metrics, KPIs, and scorecards
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent decision-making ability, negotiation, and organizational skills.

Salary Range: $140K - $180K / year

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $140,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year
