Responsibilities
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Follows all hospital and departmental policies and procedures
- Collects and receives specimens following established departmental policies and procedures
- Assumes independent responsibility for all clerical report and specimen intake computer functions in the emergency department and laboratory
- Follows established procedures for the environment of care and laboratory safety
- Utilizes judicious use of time, supplies, equipment and resources
- Utilizes time management skills to complete work
- Recognizes own limitations and seeks assistance as needed
- Utilizes appropriate chain of command
- Utilizes courtesy and sensitivity, demonstrates effective and respectful communication
- Cooperates with staffing and scheduling requirements to meet the needs of the department/Network
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have the ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic
- Accepts responsibility for learning and maintaining knowledge of laboratory practices and procedures
- Accepts responsibility for remaining current on department based competencies, including all regulatory requirements
- Accepts responsibility for remaining current on procedures for the environment of care and laboratory safety
- Accepts responsibility for learning appropriate specimen collection procedures
Education/Skills/Experience:
- High school education / GED is required
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:
- Current American Heart Association BLS certification required
- American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) phlebotomy certification (PBT) is preferred
