The International Union of Operating Engineers, Local Union No. 12 was consummated by an executive order of the General President of the International Union of Operating Engineers and approved by the General Executive Board on March 1, 1939.

Throughout the 80 years, the Officers of Local 12 have worked hard to see that the members receive a fair wage, overtime, paid holidays, subsistence pay, health and welfare, burial fund, vacation, pension and annuity benefits.

Local 12 leads the way to the next generation of skilled construction professionals. We have established training sites in six different locations throughout Southern California and Southern Nevada to train apprentices and retrain journeypersons. Each training site is equipped with various updated equipment with highly qualified instructors.

Our purpose is to provide our well-established contractors with highly qualified members willing to work hard.

Role Description
The Bookkeeper role is responsible for providing customer service to our members and internal team by performing a broad variety of services such as answering questions both and completing a variety of membership account maintenance functions. This role will assist in answering member questions/concerns regarding their account while maintaining professionalism and friendly customer service.
Job Requirements
Customer Service

  • Answer all membership inquiries from members, Officers, Business Representatives, Dispatchers, and Local 12 Staff

Administrative Tasks

  • Process Local 12 dues, billing, and arrears notices
  • Administer applications, urgent letters, forfeitures, and acceptances
  • Assemble, scan, and index checks, membership letters, and Bookkeeping reports
  • Process change of addresses and return mail
  • Prepare, process, and mail service pin letters

Membership Payment Tasks

  • Compile, prepare, input, balance, and file membership dues payments
  • Prepare deposit slips and branch receipts log
  • Compile, prepare, input, balance, and file branch receipts and credit card receipts
  • Process, sort, and mail membership identification cards and duplicate ID cards
  • Process and post registration fee receipts
  • Compose various membership letters regarding dues payments, check returns, address discrepancies, confirmation of paid through date, and yearly short letters
  • Verify membership hours reported to the Trust Fund and core membership dues payments and paid through dates

Reporting Tasks

  • Obtain sick dues reports and sick dues transactions
  • Obtain death reports and burial fund
  • Review Local 12 applications, withdrawal requests, upgrades, reinstatements, suspensions, transfers, and supplemental dues
  • Prepare membership reports and executive board reports
  • Assist in processing per capita reports

Additional Responsibilities

  • File documents as needed
  • Provide Switchboard coverage when required.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities, as required

Qualifications
Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma
  • 2-4 years of experience in call center and customer service environment
  • Experience in handling a multitude of inbound/outbound phone calls
  • Cross functional team member

Technical expertise

  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, typewriter, and calculator
  • Type minimum 40 words per minute

Specific Professional Skills

  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills, including conflict-resolution skills
  • Experience working effectively in a complex, multifaceted environment
  • Organizational skills in setting priorities to complete a heavy workload within established time frames and deadlines
  • Keep and organized and professional workstation

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $24.00 - $32.00 per hour
