Pacific Historic Parks (PHP) is a non-profit 501(C)3 organization that is a cooperating association with the National Park Service in Pearl Harbor National Memorial and Kalaupapa National Historical Park, Hawaii, American Memorial Park, Saipan-CNMI, and War in the Pacific National Historical Park, Guam. Our mission is to support Pacific historic World War II locations through education & interpretive programs, research, preservation, and restoration to perpetuate the memory of events and honor the people involved in these sites.

Job purpose

The Retail Supervisor will manage the sales, staff, and operational functions of the museum store.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Greet visitors as they enter the store in a welcoming manner.
  • Accurately process guest purchases by scanning the merchandise to the Point of Sale (POS) System or by hand entering Universal Price Codes (UPC) or prices into the system.
  • Accurately process debit sales, and charge sales to ensure customer is charged the accurate amount for items, process cash sales in an accurate manner to ensure the customer is given the correct amount of change.
  • Open and close drawer during shift ensuring cash verification in at the beginning of shift and an accurate cash out and balance deposit at the end of shift.
  • Sell PHP memberships to customers, with the ability to explain the benefits of the membership. Encourage guests to make donations to the park.
  • Keep store merchandized and looking attractive at all times. This will include restocking, folding of shirts, organizing bookshelves and other merchandize, ensuring that clothing is sorted correctly by size.
  • Hire, train, supervise, evaluate, and schedule all store staff.
  • Create staffing schedules for efficient coverage.
  • Ensure merchandise is stocked and displayed in a manner to maximize sales.
  • Open and close the store as scheduled.
  • Occasionally assist with inventory and other special events that may be held outside of traditional worksites and hours.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Three years of retail, cashier, or customer service experience, with a minimum of 6 months supervisory experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED Required, Associates or Bachelor’s in Business, Marketing, or Retail Merchandising preferred.
  • Ability to work in a professional manner with diverse guests, including non-English speakers.
  • Basic understanding of sales principles and customer service practices
  • Knowledge of customer and market dynamics and requirements
  • Ability to work as part of a team and take initiative independent of direct supervision
  • Enthusiastic, friendly and energetic with a genuine desire to provide outstanding service
