Adjunct Faculty - Cinema Production Diploma Program (Part-time)

We’re growing! Work, grow and learn with the Nashville Film Institute as we build programs that contribute to our expanding community in the heart of Music City -
Nashville, TN.

In the 9-month Cinema Production Diploma Program, students individually and collaboratively work through a designed sequence of project-based curricula as they learn to master the basics of film production. Coursework is focused on the artistic and technical aspects of preproduction, production, post production and marketing/ distribution, and the identification and mastery of skill sets necessary to aid graduates in the performance of entry-level tasks in a film production-related position. All coursework is essential to a thorough understanding of the nature and scope of film production within a broad range of job categories. This position is on-campus in Nashville, TN, and part time, working on average 32-40 hours per teaching week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create an environment of learning through effective teaching skills;
  • Maintain a student-centered focus, employing a variety of teaching strategies;
  • Maintain positive interactions with our diverse student population, providing all students with an equal opportunity to learn;
  • Annual updates to the curriculum to keep it both current and relevant to industry standards;
  • Encourage active learning through engaging content and a well-designed course flow;
  • Create threaded learning activities, including assignments, quizzes, skills tests, labs and project work, that meet the school’s primary mission of training students for careers in the film industry;
  • Assess student outcomes in a timely manner through effective assessment and constructive feedback to students to support the learning process; Grade student projects assigned in your course(s) upon completion and submission;
  • Teaching is on-campus for lectures and labs, with some work on location; Tests are delivered online;
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the industry, maintain knowledge and skill relevancy through continuing education as defined in the faculty development plan.
  • Attend faculty meetings and planning sessions;
  • Be fully prepared at the beginning of class by doing all necessary pre-planning and/or organization of materials and equipment at least two academic class days prior to start of any single day of lecture or lab, using the approved online

equipment reservation app to reserve and schedule the required equipment and materials;

  • Coordinate updates to curricula with the Program Coordinator;
  • Maintain current and relevant test questions
  • Write and/or maintain, with at minimum annual updates, course curricula in the form of syllabus, course outline, objectives and outcomes, lesson plans, course- at-a-glance, lecture notes, lab assignments, weekly online quizzes and skills tests, and major projects documentation; in addition, study guides and other study materials, instructor-created media and lecture or lab keynote presentations
  • Log in and out daily to track teaching and other assigned hours

Other Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all academic and general policies and procedures of the Nashville Film

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of student and company information
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to the mission and values of the organization
  • Adhere to company attendance and reporting standards
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities: Coordinate activities of Lab Specialist(s) - if applicable.

  • Ability to multi-task while working independently and collaboratively with other teachers and university staff

Education and/or Experience

The ideal candidate must have a minimum of four (4) years related to content creation for entertainment mediums such as film, television series, corporate media or other high level production experience. Must be able to provide verifiable work experience that does not include teaching. Required to hold an Associate's or greater degree in Film,

Cinema, or other communications or entertainment business-related discipline from an accredited college or university.

Skills:

  • Proficiency using software programs such as Pages/Numbers/Keynote or Word/

Excel/PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite, Final Draft, DaVinci Resolve and other physical and software tools related to your production experience and to file organization, and if teaching a production course:

  • Experience with digital cinema cameras, lighting, electrical and grip, generators, dollies and cranes, grip/lighting/camera trucks, location and studio production, concert/arena production.
  • A plus would be experience in teaching (classroom or workshop) and/or expertise in Production Design, Art Direction, Set Construction/Scenic, Props or Set

Dressing, High Definition Video Walls, Special Effects, or other specialization.

Environmental Factors/Physical Demands:

Work is performed in an office and classroom environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have the ability to maintain active student and employee communication; access, input and retrieve information from the computer system. May be subject to bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds for any film-related course.
